Ever since Blue Ridge Chair Works conception in 2002, we've been Made In USA. In fact, we've been Made in Western North Carolina out of American hardwood sent down to us from Michigan. Although this isn't the cheapest method, we believe it's the most authentic: bringing you beautiful, lasting, authentic outdoor furniture sculpted by highly skilled craftsmen who've lived in the area all their lives. To give you an idea of how our items are priced and how many hands really touch each one, we present to you: The Life of a Blue Ridge Chair.
Manufacturing: Franklin, NC
The wood gets sent to us and arrives in large stacks, like this:
It is then cut, sanded and shaped into our pieces of furniture, by craftsmen like Don and Ellis!
Transportation: Asheville, NC
The finished pieces are then gathered together. Larger orders are shipped straight from the factory, but smaller orders - like the ones you will recieve - are packed up and driven to the warehouse near to Blue Ridge Chair Works HQ, by non-other than Chief Chairman Alan Davis.
Final Touches: Asheville, NC
A couple of the pieces - like the Caravan Chair and the Blue Ridge Chair - require hand sewn chair backs that we do in Asheville, NC as well. Each piece is sewn individually with great attention to detail.
The finished pieces are packed up by hand and sent out to all corners of the world ready to be loved and enjoyed!
After they leave our hands, they get on board the UPS truck - and go on another adventure with them.
So, as you can see there are many personal touches that go in your Blue Ridge Chair Works furniture. Hopefully, it's also clear why our chairs may be just a tad more than others out there. In supporting Blue Ridge Chair Works, you are helping keep the rich heritage of Southern Appalachian furniture craftsmenship alive, giving jobs to skilled craftsmen and women all the way from Michigan to Asheville, and beyond.
Thank you for choosing Blue Ridge Chair Works!
